About Florence

Florence is located on the central Oregon coast along U.S. Highway 101, the Pacific coast scenic byway. Besides being rated as the #1 retirement destination in America in 2004, Florence is the #1 place to live for many other reasons.

Because it is located on the coast and next to the mountains, Florence offers a wide variety of outdoor activities. With the ocean at your doorstep, the Siuslaw River and 17 pristine fresh water lakes, there’s boating, fishing, crabbing and clamming. Several State and County campgrounds offer camping and hiking trails.

The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area is a big part of Florence as well, making it the number one spot for sand boarding, sand railing and ATV riding. Horseback riding on the beach is another favorite for residents and tourists. Just up the coast, you can whale watch, go to the famous Sea Lion caves or visit the Heceta Head lighthouse.

Florence also has two golf courses, Ocean Dunes Golf Links and Sand Pines Golf Links, which won “Best New Public Course in America”! Each offer gated communities of beautiful homes, yes you can live at the golf course.

Historic Old Town is another popular attraction. Loaded with restaurants, boutiques and souvenir shops, right on the Siuslaw River. In May, Florence celebrates “Rhody Days”, a three-day event that attracts thousands of motorcycles! Lot of food, fun, booths, car show, carnival, Rhody Parade. This year will mark the 101th Annual Rhododendron Festival.
